抱歉我缺席了好久

好像我忘了和你請假，親愛的部落格，抱歉我缺席了好久。

很大場的兩場試都考過了，聖誕新年諾亞方舟首航也過了。

2012，來了。

那天不知道是看到報紙還是什麽，突然才開始慢慢相信那個瑪雅的預言，原來真的有可能，會世界末日。

你，相信嗎？如果你相信，最想做的事情，還有什麽呢？

我不知道在這個犯太歲的龍年我又會發生什麽事，只求我可以工作順利，有更多機會回家這樣應該就够了。

Welcome 2012~~

The squeeze

The first time ever....I had to wait for the FOUR MTRs before my turn to get on board.

The peak hours for the peak areas in Hong Kong Island would be from 5pm till perhaps 7.30 or 8pm.

Lucky me, if I am working in Central, I can get on board easily as the Central is the first stop of the line I'm taking, and usually I will try to secure a place to sit and stay in my own world till I reach Mongkok, which is just 5 stations away. 

But if you have to switch lines, i.e. from Hong Kong Island to Tsuen Wan line it is definitely a disaster. 

Admiralty, the interchange station will be so full that might make me give up going back home on time when I see it. Haha, I [might] rather go back home a lil later to not squeeze in with the crowd.

The experience was painful. I was waiting with the crowd of god knows how many people and I decided to take my own sweet time until I got the space to get into the MTR. After four trains had passed, it is finally my turn and I just stood on wherever tiny space I got in the train and boooooooom I was on fire when people behind me just couldn't stop SQUEEZING. YES, and so they PUSHED. Well I wouldn't mind that much if I wasn't standing behind a primary school kid. I was trying to go against the pressure on my back cause I really don't wana push the kid and cause any uncomfy-ness. But the pressure behind me is just crazy. I almost couldn't stand it and bang on the kid and his mum started protecting him after noticing the crazy pressure around him. Yes, it's just unbelievable.

And well, people are just so used to this right? So used to it that they just don't make any sound and just accept the squeeziness and the pressure everyday. Well, perhaps making noise wouldn't help anyways so why bother. So used to it that they might be one of those people who tries their luck by sucking in their belly as much as they could to get in the last tiny tiny lil spot in the MTR......

Hmm........無奈。

The Friday Party

My first time joining a company event. Interesting one. I wonder if this comes often or just once in awhile.

Venue: The Hyde, Central.

Anyways, we got to meet people from the department, (well although not officially but in a rather casual way), we got to enjoy unlimited drinks (yeah, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), and some food too. Argh, I was stupid enough to eat my dinner before coming over but anyway I still continue eating some pizza and pastries (lol唔想蝕俾佢) in the party. Some people played pool but too bad I have 0 knowledge in the game. And lotsa chit-chats.

So this was my dinner for the night. Thanks to May for bringing me here :)

The rain

Seriously I like rainy days BUT NOT when I am outside. Okay a very self-centered thought, haha.

Anyways, seriously hate it cause I hate carrying umbrellas all around. 

First of all, it's bulky, what we call very tin-teh.

Next, you will have to find somewhere to place it/dry it cause it's so wet after using it. 

Last, my umbrella aint' big enough to cover me and all my belongings and so in the end parts of me are still not dry.

Owh, one more thing, you can't really go anywhere for food while it's raining. 

Yeeeeeesh. it has been raining these few days in HK during work/rush hours. Do stop soon kay?

And you squeeze in to get a place.

And if you're the last one to secure a place in the train, beware, your stuff your belongings your bag your shirt your something might get clamped by the door.

And you hope that you could hold on and breathe normally at least until the people squeezing on your right your left your back or in front of you moves at the next stop.

And sometimes, unfortunately, you can't fit in the last few centimeters of space left before the door closes and you would have to wait till the next train comes and you get a lil frustrated cause the clock is ticking.

And in the train, you should not move too much (which means no newspapers no mp3s no ipads/iphones etc etc etc.) cause you'll accidentally touch or hit someone's head hair arms fingers legs maybe buttocks or any other parts that you could imagine and the person will constantly check your face by looking at you A FEW TIMES (damn serious bout this) before you or him or her leaves the train and it could be really annoying because that kinda look sorta sound like "Hey, are you trying to molest me or something...

Yes. Everyone feels somewhat insecure in the MTR. Not that someone will really try to molest you or steal something away from you bag, but somehow for some reason you will just tend to look around you to ensure that you are well protected.

This is what it is like every morning on your way to work, especially for people who works around the busy areas like Central, Wanchai and Causeway Bay plus perhaps some areas in Kowloon. I used to put this as one of the top reasons for not wanting to work in HK -- commuting is just driving me crazy in HK. I would rather get stuck in a traffic in my own vehicle then to be squeezed like hell with people in frustration. 

Luckily, I only have 4 stops from home to work. Not too bad, just erm, 12 minutes?

And there you go again, at the Tsim Sha Tsui station, the door closes and opens and closes and opens and closes and opens and closes and opens....

.....the count may reach 5 or 6, sometimes. 

But I have no choice, as the title says, this is a unique sardine hu (hu=fish in fujianese) experience in HK.

Almost the end of Week 1

I'm such a typical person who can't live without anything to do. Well, maybe anything means something of my interests.

Hmm....I still couldn't help much at work as I still haven't been through the training sessions and everything is rather new for me at the moment. But I can't wait to be on track and do and learn something meaningful. Well, of course to do that, I would need someone to teach me to do some jobs but apparently everyone is busy with their own engagements. Hmm...And so what should I do.

As usual social networking sites and software are banned within the company network. In fact, internet security is pretty tight over here. Well luckily, we still got some access to pages like Youtube where I could still find Ashin to wake me up when I'm not so awake and perhaps....view some videos. Luckily, gmail is still accessible and I'm not completely confined within company environment during working hours.

I'm still wondering how much I could learn from here. [Owh stomach is trying to make some noise now (4.25pm) as I only had a piece of cake for lunch] I'm still wondering how wide will my exposure be after like 6 months or 1 year or a longer period of time. I have so much things to study....ah, why is studying still in the picture even I'm already an employed person. Beh tong nia. 

I have been having at least 4 cups of hot drinks per day, and so far, I've had more than 10 cups of coffee (sometimes with extra espresso) for the past 4 working days. oops.

Still, I need to move patiently. Yes, I must and I will....

And finally, work here I come.

I was excited, pretty excited. But still quite calm.
Arrived 20 minutes earlier than schedule, but forgot to put on my watch.
I was briefed about medical policy and MPF with other new joiners, got a photoshoot for Staff Card, then picked up by the MC (Management Consulting) department secretary to collect my work laptop and went back to the office.


The first surprise was to learn that we do not have a fixed workspace. Haha well I guess that's because the mobility is way too high. Next, I met a few of my university mates working there, it's kinda fun. Before lunch, I met my buddy named Angel, a very sweet person. And finally the biggest surprise, WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO EAT HOT FOOD IN THE COMPANY, well and this def includes self prepared lunch boxes. erm....seriously?

Everything else was fine. I wasn't given any tasks specifically related to any engagement yet. That's because I know almost nothing about how things work in there. So my main duty for the whole day was to get familiar with some admin stuff...and get to know my colleagues. I am looking forward, really looking forward to my engagement actually :)


And I have lotsa trainings comin' up, and of course the QP exam too >.<

The day before

Nothing huge. Me and Qin watched a movie that both of us have been longing to watch ....
The Last Song. Owh Liam Hensworth is so SHUAI. Haha.
It's a simple but pretty cool movie, and so here comes its Soundtrack.

And then we worked on leather rugs. It was some tough job and I would have to admit that I am not good in this. We didn't have needles of the right size and it is a better time for Qin to concentrate studying for GRE.

And then Su Yi and Alex Choo is back with the room's new bed! Wheeeee....it was a huge 工程, but the room looked nice with everything in it (definitely with those cute fluffy toys in the middle of the bed too!^^)

And then the four of us went out for Satay King Hi-Tea. Yay...there's still Hi-Tea available. We randomly chat about exercising including running, badminton or swimming which was pretty funny, and I told the story about policeman in Yuen Long who helped me with the living room cabinet and Alex's best one-hour-waiting-time in his life cause Chow Yun Fatt smiled to him during the wait. 

It's a pretty cool one, ate at 5pm, lasted till late night :) White curry beef vermicelli.

Everything was pretty simple, and relaxing.

Good thing is, yes, I finally feel a lil more alive. And I'm going to work tomorrow. I was kinda lazy about ironing my clothes but after being a lil persuaded by Qin, I IRONED for the FIRST TIME since I went to UNI 3 years ago=.=|||(well that's as far as I can remember).

And yes....I really look forward to my first day, tomorrow.

This is actually pretty surprising. And it's kinda cool too. I really enjoyed my interview him, and I believe that I'll definitely be able to learn a lot from him, well that's if  I do get the chance to be in his team when I start work.

Yay...thanks a lot Henry and KPMG. I shall work really hard for my exams^.^

Disneyland

Disney is a place full with magical moments.
They actually came to our uni for graduate recruitment talk. And the main positions they offer will be on the Operations side, where you can choose between divisions such as F&B, Merchandise, Entertainment, Hotel etc. There are also vacancies for the Professional side which involves main functions such as Finance, HR, Marketing etc. BUT they only hire people with min 1 year relevant working experience. Which means, Disneyland HK is out from my choice. To be honest, I wouldn't mind starting as a frontline staff because I really enjoy doing those stuff as a barista in Starbucks, but the pay is just so not enough for me to live a life in this super high living standard city of Hong Kong...so...BIG4 would be a little better than this. 
Nevertheless, the recruitment was pretty fun. Perhaps because they gave out FREE DISNEY PLUSH TOYS when you answer their questions...haha. Cool, I like it, and I got myself a MICKEY!

Lucky that I don't really have a hectic schedule today. Just two meetings one lecture one recruitment talk one dinner. Haha...that's really minimal for me. But I did spend like an hour or so writing down all the stuff that I have to complete lately, and not to my surprise, I managed to think of 18 tasks in like 5 minutes, and in 30 minutes it's more than one page of my diary=.= OMG. Don't feel like doing them cz weekend is here! Haha.
Had dinner with Angel today, at 越棧越式湯粉專門店 Viet's Choice, Po Lam. To be honest, this is kinda my first time asking a friend out for dinner in HK. I never really have the time to do this all the while studying here and I do kinda regret it since I'm graduating soon and things will really change soon. It was a great dinner anyways, thanks for the treat! I really enjoyed it, and sorry if I gave too much advice la :)

Pretty nice dinner! I like the Beef Hor Fun, and I have no idea what the snacks are called. Haha...

Wanna go walk around.....need some air, and shopping or even Disneyland maybe? Haha...will see how then.

Another day...in Hall 6

I was too optimistic about everything I guess. I didn't wake up too late today, and I started working on stuff once I'm up. But it took me soooooo long to complete the ERP work before I could move on with my revisions. Ah..the new Student Information System is driving me a little...erm.
Well, I still believe it's worthwhile putting time and effort in it.

Owh, another shocking thing for me. I didn't know that reserves are not available in the library for my Psychology classes cause I missed the very first lesson. Thanks to Alex, I managed to copy a few key chapters that were previously mentioned to help my revision.

And yea..I havta miss the flower show!! L
How sad could that be...
To make myself feel better, I MUST DO WELL IN MY MIDTERMS!!!

ERP Work and Others

Hmm...I think I briefly mentioned about the project I'm helping with right? The new Student Information Systems thing. It's getting scarier I think. I'm discovering more and more previously undiscovered features of this system. I'm sure it's goinna be a huge thing and hot topic among the students when it's officially launched. And I kinda have a huge responsibility to make sure that everything is fine, owh cause I'm goinna be training the first batch of students on how to use this system!!
Gah gah gah....to be honest, I'm sometimes nervous about it...haha.

Anyway, I have a homework due tomorrow, and it's SOSC200C midterm tomorrow! OMG. 5 sets of readings, 20+ pages each...how am I goinna do it. And it's only 10 questions, but 15% of your overall grade. My fr iend told me:“啲MC都幾貴既咼~”yeah. And I strongly agree. The thing is, MC is always not MY-THING. Well, I still have to do it under limited amount of time... so work hard!

Yay! It's finally out: BUZZ February 2011 Edition.
I helped reporting on two articles last sem, one with a HKUST student (she's a cricket player!), and another with a wine expert who owns a French restaurant in Causeway Bay, and it's now officially published! Owh there are some photos of me with the Business Cohort Community, and a short article regarding my trip to 東北 (Norther East China) too...so check it out people!

Study and Work

Well, it's time to settle down a little and study for my SOSC200C: Women in China midterm happening this Wednesday, and complete my ERP powerpoint slides job!

Owh, and one more thing, I cooked bak moi (pork porridge) today!! Haha, it is nothing like the Penang ones, but still, pretty good for the first try I guess. Applause to me :)

Deloitte

I might be working with Deloitte after I graduate. Well  the reason for the "might" thing is well....you'll never know what you might bump into the next step you take right.
Ah, not that I'm really waiting for any particular jobs seriously. But just that, I wana explore more opportunities to step out of HK after graduation.

Went to the Professional Designation Support Briefing Session at Three Pacific Place this afternoon. There were about 250 new hires. Wow.....staff from HKICPA delivered the QP presentation. (Again, yes, I've heard this for the 4th time this semester) And it was followed a briefing by the Learning and Development Manager regarding the support we will get from Deloitte regarding obtaining various professional qualifications including ACCA, Aus CPA, AICPA, CISA, CIA etc etc. Well they mentioned support. But it actually differed a lot from what I expected. Sis got membership and examination fees waived for her ACCA. And over here, it's only 5 days study leave, training sessions/classes, and some notes for its HKICPA. That's it. 
And at the same time, I learned that I need to pay HKD900 of QP registration fee very soon, and HKD4000 for each QP paper (5 papers in total). Ah...so where am I goinna get this cash flow.
Awwwwed.

Life is tough man.
So now you know why I said might right..? Heh *winks*

I had Bark Chang (Lotus Leaf Glutinous Rice, HKD8 @ Hang Hau Market) for dinner. It was not nice at all...not juicy enough, like the one at home (only RM2.5) :(



This is actually otak-otak in Penang. Something extremely nice too (Fish and spices in it). Too bad I didn't have the chance to eat bak chang during my last trip back home :(
