Another famous food in HK and especially in Yaumatei-- Claypot rice (煲仔飯).
And this place seems to be very famous. 四季煲仔飯 (my own translation- Four Seasons Claypot Rice, lol)
At 6.45pm, there were only 4 people in the line. And at 8pm, there were around twenty people queuing up for the food.
They sell Fried Osyters too.
Not bad not bad. I had Lapcheong Chicken Rice.
Nevertheless, I would still think that Penang's Sar Poh Pui is better haha. As for the Fried Oyster, it is quite different from the Malaysian style, and I kinda like it in both styles :)

Sweetheart Garden Steakhouse

Country Art Museum
Somewhere so isolated from the city. 26 minutes MTR+30 minutes bus to reach this place we call.....Dai Mei Duk. And within it there's this cute lil restaurant called Cafe de Country Art.
Alex bought this from Groupon and because he is not in HK anymore, me and Xiaoqin went for it on a weekday evening. It is a very kanchiong one cause the place is just so far away and Xiaoqin might not be able to finish up work early and get there just in time to finish our food. But luckily in the end we made it.
First, I was amazed by this place, it is so un-HongKong. 2-3 storeys instead of tall buildings, the sea instead of rows of shops and swarms of people. Good environment, and a place that I would consider living in.....IF I drive. Haha.
Second, the food is actually pretty GOOD!
Appetizer, my fresh Salmon Salad |
Xiaoqin's Fish |
Chocolate Curry Beef! I thought it was weird initially, but it turned out to be pretty good! :) |
I don't know how to call it in English leh...Sawdust Cheese Cake? LOL. |
A nice place to chill actually, well that's if we don't have to go to work the next day.
Will definitely cycle over here one day.
Owh, one more thing, this area is also called.....
LOL. Long Boay Paya Terubong equivalent in Penang. Yes I wana go back home^^

Cause I wanna.
Cause I wanna skip talking about Mock Exams, so I skipped blogging on Oct 31st. And pretend that Oct 2011 only has 30 days, and I pretend that Halloween 2011 does not fall on Oct 31st.
YES.
Hmm....I decided to blog about FOOD from today onwards for the week. LOL so what's first?
Let's go to Watami
Cause I have their CC and cause the CC is tied up with Watami, I got this HKD100 coupon for dining in during my b'day month. Yummy.
Cause I've always enjoyed Japanese food, although I can say that this is genuine Japanese food. But still a nice treat.
Well, one interesting which happened when I was eating the above rice. While I was about 60% away from finishing my food, I realized a HUGE crack at the Stone Pot =.= Yes, one whole line straight through. And so I ate away most of the seafood and ask for a change for a new pot of it. LOL. So I had almost 1.8 portions of the rice and 2 miso soups for the meal. So it's lunch+dinner.
Lol. Satisfied.

Milo in the office
Lol people who know what I'm talking about, knows what I'm talking about and correct me if I'm wrong cause I haven't heard of that song for a damn long time.
I used to LOVE milo alot. Yes, I love it.
During my schooling days, every morning, my mum will prepare a cup of milo for each of us (dad+mum+sis+me) as breakfast before we head for school. And during most of the nights, we will drink milo before going to bed. I guess it's the same for lotsa families and Malaysians do rely on milo A LOT. The price has hiked up pretty much till I stop being so addicted to it years ago (I think the other reason was because mum realized that the sugar content in milo is too high). We use to buy a whole tin (1.5kg?) of it which costs around RM15+- till they start producing the 3-in-1 packets to make mum's job easier. But no joke 3-in-1 started with a price of around RM8.5+- and now it's on average RM13 (if I've not mistaken). Fuyohhh....inflation. When milo is on sale (I remember it used to happen quite a lot in Lai Lai Supermarket on Burmah Road), I used to be the useful family member trying to grab as many tins/packets as we could in front of the storeroom door. No shock, every else does that too! It's a matter of whether you're fast and ganas enough. And I remember being pretty ahem...proud of myself for being able to get 12 units (capped at max 3 per customer) for my family during each sale.
Those were the days.
When we started to feel that milo is just cutting consumers throat with the rapid price increase, we did thought of alternatives such as Vico or Ovaltine. But they're just not....milo. Haha, so today, it is still guaranteed that there'll be some milo in my house cause my dad is still so loyal to that drink.
Well, for me, not drinking it at home doesn't mean that I don't like it anymore. I was pretty excited to learn that my company has this beverage vending machine which also makes milo, yes and unlimited and for FREE! And so, milo is the next beverage I'll not miss whenever I'm in the office after coffee.
Lol, sure kena diabetes leh....one day.

A production of my uni
This documentary was actually aired in several television stations in HK a couple of weeks ago. I guess it's a pretty cool thing.
Well, it is definitely a miracle. Especially for those founders who witnessed the establishment till the growth of the university since 1988+.
Although I really hate the study-stress I had all the while in HKUST, I still have no almost no regrets for choosing to come over. (Well, sometimes I do think that things will be so much simpler if I hadn't choose this path). But being in HKUST for three years had made me seen so much more than I've expected, so much that I think I've realized more of what I actually enjoy doing, and what I am capable of.
Well, back to the topic. This great uni has really great research and great opportunities for people who share the vision to make a little difference to the society, and bit by bit, to the world. And although it's true that me and many of my peers are not directly related to the video (some very high-tech results and mostly postgrad related), I'm still proud to see this video and proud to say that I'm an HKUST alumnus.

Brands Class

The squeeze
The first time ever....I had to wait for the FOUR MTRs before my turn to get on board.
The peak hours for the peak areas in Hong Kong Island would be from 5pm till perhaps 7.30 or 8pm.
Lucky me, if I am working in Central, I can get on board easily as the Central is the first stop of the line I'm taking, and usually I will try to secure a place to sit and stay in my own world till I reach Mongkok, which is just 5 stations away.
But if you have to switch lines, i.e. from Hong Kong Island to Tsuen Wan line it is definitely a disaster.
Admiralty, the interchange station will be so full that might make me give up going back home on time when I see it. Haha, I [might] rather go back home a lil later to not squeeze in with the crowd.
T-shirt reflecting the crowd in HK=.= And Lucy on the first row is ANGRY. |
The experience was painful. I was waiting with the crowd of god knows how many people and I decided to take my own sweet time until I got the space to get into the MTR. After four trains had passed, it is finally my turn and I just stood on wherever tiny space I got in the train and boooooooom I was on fire when people behind me just couldn't stop SQUEEZING. YES, and so they PUSHED. Well I wouldn't mind that much if I wasn't standing behind a primary school kid. I was trying to go against the pressure on my back cause I really don't wana push the kid and cause any uncomfy-ness. But the pressure behind me is just crazy. I almost couldn't stand it and bang on the kid and his mum started protecting him after noticing the crazy pressure around him. Yes, it's just unbelievable.
And well, people are just so used to this right? So used to it that they just don't make any sound and just accept the squeeziness and the pressure everyday. Well, perhaps making noise wouldn't help anyways so why bother. So used to it that they might be one of those people who tries their luck by sucking in their belly as much as they could to get in the last tiny tiny lil spot in the MTR......
Hmm........

Promoting Technology
Techies should know that the new Sony tablet has recently been launched. It's a pretty cool gadget I would say...from far.
Well, this
<------- is exactly how techs are promoted to the society nowadays. Woman. It happens the same to HTC phones as well, and maybe more brands. They're not really here to tell you more about the products, but rather to gather many huge cameras around them for more more more photos. Yes, and they DO pose a lot.
In the end, I didn't really manage to get any info about the tablet. But it does look kinda nice. Hmm....if the price is cheaper than iPad2, it could be something that I would consider. Haha...

Happy Halloween
The first time I got to know about Ocean Park's Halloween Bash is when me and my family came to HK for holiday some four years ago. We noticed that it requires some additional tickets to enter into a special zone and they cost more than the regular Ocean Park tickets. So it made me wonder what's so interesting with this Halloween thingy that people are willing to pay so much to get in there.
2008. People were talking about the Halloween Bash. I didn't really think about going cause to me it's still rather expensive and well.....I decided to wait.
2009. Most of my local friends around here talks about it. So it kinda interest me a lil more. Thought of arranging a trip there with my jongmates but in the end failed cause it's just too hard to find a date which fits everyone's schedule.
2010. As more and more people have been there, I really wanted to try it once but unfortunately, HKUST doesn't really have any pro-halloween environment LOL. Midterms and assignments and deadlines are all around and it's just rather...impossible.
2011. No more HKUST. But no work as well. Planned to go in end Sept but I was so out of mood and I don't think I can afford so much fun so I cancelled my intention. Had a slim chance of going cause our friend bought a ticket but couldn't go but too bad tickets were sold out on the first (i think so?) Halloween Bash day in end Sept and so still nope......But group purchase made the day. While it's sold at just 168 instead of 325 or something rather expensive, me and Stephanie finally chose to take the deal and go for it on a Thursday.
Still...a lot of people, but I could imagine it is already so much better than weekends. Some queues but at least we still managed to get into all of the haunted attractions (Eight of them~~). Pretty cool! And I think I'll soon retire from this so'd better scream as much as I can. LOL. It was rather challenging for me at first, but after two of those haunted houses, I got so used to it (not that I'm not scared at all) the 'ghosts' were asking me why am I smiling so nicely to them. Haha....
And then I sorta get the idea why are they charging people at such an expensive rate. I think they really made a lot of effort in setting up the place and hiring so many ghosts all around the park.
Cool, overall.
I really like this ghost :) So real... |
And Happy Halloween people!!^^
Before we leave....joker? |

QP Workshop
We have to attend two compulsory workshops for each module before the QP exams. And we have to obtain a pass in the workshop or else we will not be allowed to sit for the exams. Passing it means getting at least 12 green light indicators out of 16 of them, and usually they are quite relaxed in grading the workshops.
I had my workshop yesterday and today. In all workshops there will be two facilitators, and for my workshops one of the facilitators is weird=.=
The one yesterday said he failed 4 students in his previous workshop, and he made a weird comparison between KPMG and PwC's culture, and he conducted the final session of the workshop in Cantonese out of a sudden.
The one today was so into his own world that he doesn't know what he's talking about and he was querying the students doing the presentation as though we're in court and so L.O.S.T.
Gah, is this what the qualification is like? Do I see myself in that way as well in 10-20 years. Scary....but what to do. I still havta take this exam.
P/S: The Learning Packs of QP is so damn thick. Die la me....I'll show you guys a photo of it later then.
P/S/S: Mock exam in 11 days!!!!

Her bears
My roomie went to Seoul. She won some competition (which I could not recall) and erm got this free 5 nights trip and left me all alone in the room.
Because she had to sorta take out some clothing stuff from her huge luggage, she took the teddies she had with her out from that luggage too. Poor teddies, they must have sorta suffocated in the luggage.
And so I took the opportunity to take this photo while she's away :)
Yippee, aren't they cute too! They deserve a living space and to breathe. Haha...
Owh, and my roomie thinks that I have way too many bears as though it's their bed rather then mine LOL.

夢
Something familiar...and not familiar. |

Yum Cha-s
WOW. I had THREE yum-cha sessions in a week. Different restaurants, different locations, but still sometimes the same Ha Kau, Siew Mai and Cheung Fun. LOL. And I like 奶黃包, what you call milk custard bun?
Milk Custard Bun |
Overall, Hong Kong Dim Sum could be pretty nice and I do enjoy eating it once in awhile. But it could be really pricey too, depending on the restaurant. Owh, speaking about the venue where dim sum is sold, I really miss those dim sum shops where food is placed on trolleys and pushed to your table and you could just stand up and take whatever you want (this is at least still happening in Penang). But in HK, you are given a list of menu (點菜單) and you are supposed to read those long long names of those dim-sums (speaking about 5 Chinese characters and above) and tick the amount that you wana order. And sometimes, I am just to lazy to understand the menu. Haha.
Well, luckily that these three sessions were all paid-for. So it wasn't too bad haha. The thing that I really like in Dim Sum sessions would be the dessert. Yummy Mango Pudding and Coffee Cake :)

The Interview
It's kinda interesting to be invited as an Alumni Interviewer for the HKDSE Early Interview Scheme.
It wasn't a very hard task I would say, but still considered challenge as you are given the responsibility to grade those students' performance in various aspects and give them a score on whether we would highly recommend them for admissions to our UG program for the year 2012/2013.
Enjoyed it (Although it took up a full day of mine lol)
Overall, I think most of the students (I think aged 17?) are pretty brilliant. At least more brilliant than me when I was 17? haha....And they were pretty good in discussions too. And some of them were REALLY EXTREMELY IMPRESSIVE. I mean way more impressive than the majority of university students and I couldn't imagine how were they brought up which made them so mature and so wow, adult-like.
Impressive.
So this made me think a lot. I should kinda 反省now lol.
The Friday Party
My first time joining a company event. Interesting one. I wonder if this comes often or just once in awhile.
Venue: The Hyde, Central.
(My first time still in Central pubs and bars area this late too><)
Anyways, we got to meet people from the department, (well although not officially but in a rather casual way), we got to enjoy unlimited drinks (yeah, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), and some food too. Argh, I was stupid enough to eat my dinner before coming over but anyway I still continue eating some pizza and pastries (lol唔想蝕俾佢) in the party. Some people played pool but too bad I have 0 knowledge in the game. And lotsa chit-chats.
So this was my dinner for the night. Thanks to May for bringing me here :)

The Smart-world
I am using a Sony Ericsson K530i. If you are wondering what the hell is this, erm, it's a mobile phone. I guess the tech world is moving so freaking fast and there's almost a new phone being launched everyday and we could never remember all the phone models like how I used to do when I was young. Nokia 3200 and some other four digits models and some Sony Ericsson Walkman XXXX etc.
No longer the same. Generation changes.
[eh i feel old...man.]
I have been using this phone for 4 years. It has been quite a while so I sorta plan to change to a new one not because this is not a good phone, in fact I think it's a really user friendly one (I still prefer keypads over touchscreens) as since I don't shoot photos or listen to music or play games or watch videos, texting and calling is all I need. ....owh continue the previous sentence, but rather because it doesn't look so "pro" when you are surrounded by people with Smartphones esp iPhones or some Samsung Galaxy and some HTC while you're still using erm...something that does not support Wifi.
Haha, I dare not take out my phone while we were dining together with colleagues. I feel so DAMN PAISE.
Hmm. So what should be my target? I have always thought of Blackberry but it seems that it is not as user-friendly as the others. And I don't really wanna get an iPhone cause it's just too common in HK (lol I 耍性格). Seriously considering a HTC but all phones are just too expensive for me. Figuring out whether to sheung toi or to just buy the phone separately and subscribe to a telecomm plan. Thinking of whether AP phones are reliable. Don't know if prices will drop dramatically when iPhone 4s is brought into the HK market. Hmm.....how arrrr.
And okay if you're wondering how does my current phone look like so here it is ....:
And okay if you're wondering how does my current phone look like so here it is ....:
Lol NOT TOO BAD right? haha.

The rain
Seriously I like rainy days BUT NOT when I am outside. Okay a very self-centered thought, haha.
Anyways, seriously hate it cause I hate carrying umbrellas all around.
First of all, it's bulky, what we call very tin-teh.
Next, you will have to find somewhere to place it/dry it cause it's so wet after using it.
Last, my umbrella aint' big enough to cover me and all my belongings and so in the end parts of me are still not dry.
Owh, one more thing, you can't really go anywhere for food while it's raining.
Yeeeeeesh. it has been raining these few days in HK during work/rush hours. Do stop soon kay?

Like Sardine Hu in HK
8.20am.
And you squeeze in to get a place.
And if you're the last one to secure a place in the train, beware, your stuff your belongings your bag your shirt your something might get clamped by the door.
And you hope that you could hold on and breathe normally at least until the people squeezing on your right your left your back or in front of you moves at the next stop.
And sometimes, unfortunately, you can't fit in the last few centimeters of space left before the door closes and you would have to wait till the next train comes and you get a lil frustrated cause the clock is ticking.
And in the train, you should not move too much (which means no newspapers no mp3s no ipads/iphones etc etc etc.) cause you'll accidentally touch or hit someone's head hair arms fingers legs maybe buttocks or any other parts that you could imagine and the person will constantly check your face by looking at you A FEW TIMES (damn serious bout this) before you or him or her leaves the train and it could be really annoying because that kinda look sorta sound like "Hey, are you trying to molest me or something...
Yes. Everyone feels somewhat insecure in the MTR. Not that someone will really try to molest you or steal something away from you bag, but somehow for some reason you will just tend to look around you to ensure that you are well protected.
This is what it is like every morning on your way to work, especially for people who works around the busy areas like Central, Wanchai and Causeway Bay plus perhaps some areas in Kowloon. I used to put this as one of the top reasons for not wanting to work in HK -- commuting is just driving me crazy in HK. I would rather get stuck in a traffic in my own vehicle then to be squeezed like hell with people in frustration.
Luckily, I only have 4 stops from home to work. Not too bad, just erm, 12 minutes?
And there you go again, at the Tsim Sha Tsui station, the door closes and opens and closes and opens and closes and opens and closes and opens....
.....the count may reach 5 or 6, sometimes.
But I have no choice, as the title says, this is a unique sardine hu (hu=fish in fujianese) experience in HK.
*No photo for the day, well, I suppose photo-taking of such a scene couldn't be anyway possible.LOL*

Another mini but warm house warming
Tea belongs to Tee and Coffee belongs to Teh. :) |
And sorry for not being able to cook today as we were so not prepared and I'm sure it will take a long time for me to cook something not even ..close..to your standards. Haha. So Maple Leaf Thai Food here I come again.
The Pad-thai was not so good this time, the fried rice neither. Hmm...luckily the rest of the curry and all was fine.
Pineapple Fried Rice, Pad Thai and Tom Yum Chicken Wings |
STOP!!!!! Not before we take FOOD PHOTOS! |
