An interesting Saturday

It is always exciting to know that you have a parcel waiting for you at the post office.
And thanks to Tim, for the postcard and for the shell made bracelet. I really appreciate it and I miss you guys a lot.

It has been a long time since I last volunteered.
My last involvement was the visit (Teaching Summer Institutes) in August 2011, where I taught F2-3 students in a primary school in Yunnan English and Computer. Ahh, I still remembered times setting questions and grading students' homework at 12am in our hostel room. I remembered the Yunnan Cross-bridge Noodles (過橋米線) too. Yummy.
And yes it has been 9 months. Amazing 9 months.
And today, I went to SoCO Hong Kong in Sham Shui Po to facilitate tutorial sessions for kids (mainly primary school students). This session was made known to me through my company's CSR department. And I'm happy to be here. I tutored a P3 student and to me, she is damn smart. She learn English pretty quickly and Chinese idioms that I barely remember myself learning.
It was a meaningful 1.5 hour spent and I'll definitely be back again.

And next, I decided to go collect my free bicycle :)
But damn, it's raining again. I originally thought of cycling back home from Jordan (2 stations away from home) but it doesn't seem possible so I decided to carry it back home. Well, moreover it is not properly set up when I collected it. I thought it wasn't a hard job but gosh....it's 15kgs and it nearly killed me while I try to carry it from the shop into the MTR and out from the MTR station and it was raining and I have to walk 20+minutes home.

But it's a nice bicycle.
YAY! So I'll plan where to go cycle next.
And then? After rain at 7pm....

Hong Kong Style

Another famous food in HK and especially in Yaumatei-- Claypot rice (煲仔飯).
And this place seems to be very famous. 四季煲仔飯 (my own translation- Four Seasons Claypot Rice, lol)
At 6.45pm, there were only 4 people in the line. And at 8pm, there were around twenty people queuing up for the food.

They sell Fried Osyters too.
Not bad not bad. I had Lapcheong Chicken Rice.
Nevertheless, I would still think that Penang's Sar Poh Pui is better haha. As for the Fried Oyster, it is quite different from the Malaysian style, and I kinda like it in both styles :)

Sweetheart Garden Steakhouse

Country Art Museum

Somewhere so isolated from the city. 26 minutes MTR+30 minutes bus to reach this place we call.....Dai Mei Duk. And within it there's this cute lil restaurant called Cafe de Country Art.

Alex bought this from Groupon and because he is not in HK anymore, me and Xiaoqin went for it on a weekday evening. It is a very kanchiong one cause the place is just so far away and Xiaoqin might not be able to finish up work early and get there just in time to finish our food. But luckily in the end we made it.

First, I was amazed by this place, it is so un-HongKong. 2-3 storeys instead of tall buildings, the sea instead of rows of shops and swarms of people. Good environment, and a place that I would consider living in.....IF I drive. Haha.

Second, the food is actually pretty GOOD!
Appetizer, my fresh Salmon Salad
Xiaoqin's Fish
Chocolate Curry Beef! I thought it was weird initially, but it turned out to be pretty good! :)
I don't know how to call it in English leh...Sawdust Cheese Cake? LOL.
A nice place to chill actually, well that's if we don't have to go to work the next day.
Will definitely cycle over here one day.

Owh, one more thing, this area is also called.....
LOL. Long Boay Paya Terubong equivalent in Penang. Yes I wana go back home^^

Cause I wanna.

Cause I wanna skip talking about Mock Exams, so I skipped blogging on Oct 31st. And pretend that Oct 2011 only has 30 days, and I pretend that Halloween 2011 does not fall on Oct 31st.
YES.

Hmm....I decided to blog about FOOD from today onwards for the week. LOL so what's first?

Let's go to Watami
Cause I have their CC and cause the CC is tied up with Watami, I got this HKD100 coupon for dining in during my b'day month. Yummy.
Xiaoqin's Cold Noodles
HKD52 (including Miso soup+drink. My Garlic and Butter Seafood Rice in Stone Pot Set
(LOL the names are always long....)
Cause I've always enjoyed Japanese food, although I can say that this is genuine Japanese food. But still a nice treat.

Well, one interesting which happened when I was eating the above rice. While I was about 60% away from finishing my food, I realized a HUGE crack at the Stone Pot =.= Yes, one whole line straight through. And so I ate away most of the seafood and ask for a change for a new pot of it. LOL. So I had almost 1.8 portions of the rice and 2 miso soups for the meal. So it's lunch+dinner.

Lol. Satisfied.

A lesson about what is a sheep a goat a lamb and lambs could be alive etc lol.
A nice gathering with all.
And I enjoyed cooking mum's signature prawn balls cabbage soup :)

And definitely not to forget the super duper GOOOOOOOOOOOOD dessert brought by Bernard.
Owh and we had dessert wine from Canada!

And the super rich and yummy chocolate cake.
What A Nice Day.
Yipppeeeeeeee.
Well if I only I didn't have to ............worry about tomorrow XD

Milo in the office

What it used to be
Minum milo anda jadi sihat dan kuat!
Lol people who know what I'm talking about, knows what I'm talking about and correct me if I'm wrong cause I haven't heard of that song for a damn long time.
I used to LOVE milo alot. Yes, I love it.

During my schooling days, every morning, my mum will prepare a cup of milo for each of us (dad+mum+sis+me) as breakfast before we head for school. And during most of the nights, we will drink milo before going to bed. I guess it's the same for lotsa families and Malaysians do rely on milo A LOT. The price has hiked up pretty much till I stop being so addicted to it years ago (I think the other reason was because mum realized that the sugar content in milo is too high). We use to buy a whole tin (1.5kg?) of it which costs around RM15+- till they start producing the 3-in-1 packets to make mum's job easier. But no joke 3-in-1 started with a price of around RM8.5+- and now it's on average RM13 (if I've not mistaken). Fuyohhh....inflation. When milo is on sale (I remember it used to happen quite a lot in Lai Lai Supermarket on Burmah Road), I used to be the useful family member trying to grab as many tins/packets as we could in front of the storeroom door. No shock, every else does that too! It's a matter of whether you're fast and ganas enough. And I remember being pretty ahem...proud of myself for being able to get 12 units (capped at max 3 per customer) for my family during each sale.
And now.

Those were the days.
When we started to feel that milo is just cutting consumers throat with the rapid price increase, we did thought of alternatives such as Vico or Ovaltine. But they're just not....milo. Haha, so today, it is still guaranteed that there'll be some milo in my house cause my dad is still so loyal to that drink.

Well, for me, not drinking it at home doesn't mean that I don't like it anymore. I was pretty excited to learn that my company has this beverage vending machine which also makes milo, yes and unlimited and for FREE! And so, milo is the next beverage I'll not miss whenever I'm in the office after coffee.
Lol, sure kena diabetes leh....one day.

Yum Cha-s

WOW. I had THREE yum-cha sessions in a week. Different restaurants, different locations, but still sometimes the same Ha Kau, Siew Mai and Cheung Fun. LOL. And I like 奶黃包, what you call milk custard bun?
Milk Custard Bun
Overall, Hong Kong Dim Sum could be pretty nice and I do enjoy eating it once in awhile. But it could be really pricey too, depending on the restaurant. Owh, speaking about the venue where dim sum is sold, I really miss those dim sum shops where food is placed on trolleys and pushed to your table and you could just stand up and take whatever you want (this is at least still happening in Penang). But in HK, you are given a list of menu (點菜單) and you are supposed to read those long long names of those dim-sums (speaking about 5 Chinese characters and above) and tick the amount that you wana order. And sometimes, I am just to lazy to understand the menu. Haha.

Well, luckily that these three sessions were all paid-for. So it wasn't too bad haha. The thing that I really like in Dim Sum sessions would be the dessert. Yummy Mango Pudding and Coffee Cake :)

The Friday Party

My first time joining a company event. Interesting one. I wonder if this comes often or just once in awhile.
Venue: The Hyde, Central.
(My first time still in  Central pubs and bars area this late too><)

Anyways, we got to meet people from the department, (well although not officially but in a rather casual way), we got to enjoy unlimited drinks (yeah, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), and some food too. Argh, I was stupid enough to eat my dinner before coming over but anyway I still continue eating some pizza and pastries (lol唔想蝕俾佢) in the party. Some people played pool but too bad I have 0 knowledge in the game. And lotsa chit-chats.

So this was my dinner for the night. Thanks to May for bringing me here :)
With 魚皮餃and 春卷
11pm. People and Taxis all around.
And some random group performing some random song and dance thingy in front of MCM

Another mini but warm house warming

Tea belongs to Tee and Coffee belongs to Teh. :)
Thanks Bernard and Ceci. We really love the gifts. It's so cool...and makes us felt somewhat upgraded to some better-than-ikea homey place. Lol.

And sorry for not being able to cook today as we were so not prepared and I'm sure it will take a long time for me to cook something not even ..close..to your standards. Haha. So Maple Leaf Thai Food here I come again.
The Pad-thai was not so good this time, the fried rice neither. Hmm...luckily the rest of the curry and all was fine.
Pineapple Fried Rice, Pad Thai and Tom Yum Chicken Wings
STOP!!!!! Not before we take FOOD PHOTOS!
The first one meaning the one who took these photos la...lol. We were stopping people from eating.
Tom Yum Soup with prawn and straw mushroom and tomato for everyone^^
The most enjoyable thing was definitely the nice Malaysian-Singaporean slang Sing+Manglish+Hua Yu chat. Fun guessing Bernard's job Bernard's hobby Bernard's talents and fun learning about photography from the pro. Fun guessing...erm...the D.A.T.E too. LOL. I know it's coming.
Tong Shui. Trust me, we were the ones who attracted customers into the shop ;)
Nice catchup. Would loook forward to our next meeting, when I would try my best to cook something erm...close...to you standards. *winks*

One weekend and the KEH PUI (雞飯)

Blurrish photo ....cz everyone was focusing on the food. including me lol.
1. Our new tenant for 無聊部屋arrived. Well it's a good thing cause at least the empty space we had is not wasted.

"BYE-BYE"
2. This car with a very cool car plate was parked on Shanghai Street after we had our family-lunch at the HKD22 Japanese shop (this has really been one of my favorite places to have lunch cause of its cheap-ness)
Lunch: Curry Beef with Enoki Mushrooms
3. OMG and I had PENANG Tanjung Bunga MARKET CHICKEN RICE shipped all the way from Tanjung Bunga to Greenlane McD to Paya Terubong to Penang International Airport to Hong Kong International Airport and to Sheung Shui and finally to Mongkok (9am-->11.30pm)!!!!!!!!!!
Feels like I'm in heaven ^^
I know this sounds extremely crazy but com'on....I miss Penang food and will do whatever I could to eat it man. LOL. Thanks to everyone who made it happen, my mum n dad n sis, Yong Sin, and most important of all the APPLE TECHIE guy CK! :)

So this summarizes my weekend. I wasn't feeling so well during dinner time but in the end, everything ended super nicely (yes, with the chicken rice). Who cares about the headache by then, it just tastes h.o.m.e. to me.
Tomorrow's the start of my first training with the firm. Yay, I wana learn something GOOD.

The House Warming

Finally, today is the day.
It has been a month since we moved in to this new house in Mongkok, although well we only had about 4 days where everyone is at home. But we've always wanted this...to thank people who helped us in our house moving.
J

And many friends were invited but too bad it's the midterm season of HKUST so most of them couldn't come. Two huge pots of Bak Kut Teh were prepared the night before and 3 pots of rice were cooked. We had some vege and fruit cocktail too. Owh, also not to forget the live skype session with our former anchor tenant of the house Alex Yap. Haha.....we started eating at around 2pm.

Have always wanted to make the house as warm and comfy and as Malaysian as possible.
Happy family^^

And thanks to people who came all the way over to our House Warming.

Owh and we actually had quite a lot of leftovers, haha. Guess we'll be eating Bak Kut Teh for the next three days XD

The day before

Nothing huge. Me and Qin watched a movie that both of us have been longing to watch ....
The Last Song. Owh Liam Hensworth is so SHUAI. Haha.
It's a simple but pretty cool movie, and so here comes its Soundtrack.

And then we worked on leather rugs. It was some tough job and I would have to admit that I am not good in this. We didn't have needles of the right size and it is a better time for Qin to concentrate studying for GRE.

And then Su Yi and Alex Choo is back with the room's new bed! Wheeeee....it was a huge 工程, but the room looked nice with everything in it (definitely with those cute fluffy toys in the middle of the bed too!^^)

And then the four of us went out for Satay King Hi-Tea. Yay...there's still Hi-Tea available. We randomly chat about exercising including running, badminton or swimming which was pretty funny, and I told the story about policeman in Yuen Long who helped me with the living room cabinet and Alex's best one-hour-waiting-time in his life cause Chow Yun Fatt smiled to him during the wait.
It's a pretty cool one, ate at 5pm, lasted till late night :) White curry beef vermicelli.
Everything was pretty simple, and relaxing.

Good thing is, yes, I finally feel a lil more alive. And I'm going to work tomorrow. I was kinda lazy about ironing my clothes but after being a lil persuaded by Qin, I IRONED for the FIRST TIME since I went to UNI 3 years ago=.=|||(well that's as far as I can remember).

And yes....I really look forward to my first day, tomorrow.

One of the food

This is one of the food that I kinda enjoy in HK.
This one is with 鮮蝦雲吞:). HKD25.
It's called 貴州酸辣紅薯粉 (well it's a type of noodles). And I always prefer to have it as spicy as I could take it....
And erm, as much as my tongue and taste buds like it, I guess my stomach doesn't really like this type of spiciness....

Anyway, I don't care. I will still eat it...... occasionally.

Thanks to Su Yi and Alex Choo's treat^^

Owh by the way, it's NATIONAL DAY of PRC!! I did thought of going out for the fireworks at Tsim Sha Tsui...(well since we're not that far away anymore) but maybe...I'm already too old for all the squeezing and tip-toeing HAHA...Happy Birthday ^^!

6 down, 1 more to go

Somehow I just hoped that I do not have any more exams next week :P
Being a very "hea" final year probably not my final sem student.

I'm not sure how "bad" I did in my exams today and for the past few days, somehow I'm really tired of exams. Not really because I tried very very hard, just the fact I realized that, ahh...whatever, I have been taking exams for like 16 years, and I just don't think that exams are the best proof of how well you understand the subject, and esp in HK, and enough is enough... LOL.
and OMG I do realize that I still have professional qualification exams in the future leh....
Had a nice gathering with Lucinda and erm Faria (Jason) after Psychology exam today. It was a good one...with lotsa interesting stories. And so I had the mood to actually cook some food and invited Faria and CJ and Alex over for dinner....
Happy to know that Faria is going to LSE for Masters, and sad that uni life is really ending very soon and someday a lot of us might not be seeing each other anymore for erm.....a long long time...?
Ah....all the best people!

Nice day. But sadly I havta go back to Hong Kong Tax very very soooooooon. Ish.
Dinner cooked in 1.25 hours. The curry spice wasn't that nice as I expected. Anyways....satisfied. Does this meal look similar? Haha...sorry lah, my cooking style is still very limited at this moment LOL.

It's Macau again
